For us, today’s World Recycling Day<\/strong> means that we urgently need to deal with topics such as reuse, circular fashion<\/a>, cradle2cradle<\/a>, lovedclotheslast and alternative consumption models.<\/strong><\/span><\/span> We all.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Politicians<\/strong> with corresponding laws that hold disrespectful manufacturing companies accountable.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n\u2022 The media<\/strong>, who have to fulfill their obligation to provide information and explain the connections between fashion and climate \u2013 too many people still don’t know anything about it<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n\u2022\u00a0The consumers<\/strong> – that’s all of us – with more conscious consumption.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our tips for consumers on World Recycling Day<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

\n<\/strong>\u2022 Repariert eure Kleidungsst\u00fccke<\/strong> (oder lasst sie reparieren)

\n\u2022 Doesn’t fit anymore?<\/span><\/span> Have your former favorite pieces made suitable again<\/strong>, e.g. at @changeinto<\/a><\/span><\/span>
\n\u2022 Buy upcycled fashion<\/strong> – fashion made from existing materials<\/span><\/span>
\n\u2022 Organize a private clothes swap<\/strong> party<\/strong> with friends<\/span><\/span>
\n\u2022 #rethinkfashion<\/strong><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

At some point, in the not too distant future, our planet’s natural resources will run out.<\/span><\/span> Earth Overshoot Day<\/strong> – when we humans have used more resources than our earth can produce – is moving forward every year.<\/span><\/span> In 2022 it was July 28th<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span> In 1987, Earth Overshoot Day<\/strong> fell on December 19th.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"World<\/p>\n

We consume more than we are entitled to.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

The past decade<\/strong> has been the warmest on record.<\/span><\/span> The climate crisis can no longer be denied.<\/span><\/span> <\/strong>We must do something fast to prevent global temperatures<\/strong> from rising further, ice caps from melting, continents from burning<\/strong> and forests from being cut down rapidly.<\/span><\/span> Sounds stupid?<\/span><\/span> It’s even really bad.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We urgently need to think about what we throw away<\/strong> – and not waste, but see opportunities.<\/span><\/span> We must act.<\/span><\/span> <\/strong>Now.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Recycling<\/a> is an important part of the circular economy and helps protect our natural resources, valuable primary resources.<\/span><\/span> Every year, the so-called “seventh resource”<\/strong> (recyclable materials) saves over 700 million tons of CO2 emissions. By 2030, this is expected to increase to 1 billion tons<\/strong>. There is no doubt that recycling is at the forefront when it comes to the future of our planet<\/strong> and<\/span><\/span> to save humanity.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We support this day to<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

1. tell leaders that recycling is a global issue<\/strong> and a common approach to recycling is urgently needed.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n2. encourage people to think in terms of resources and not waste when it comes to all goods.<\/span><\/span> It’s not waste until you waste it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So:<\/strong> Never, never and really never throw away.<\/span><\/span> There is almost always a way to continue using textiles.<\/strong><\/span><\/span> Except: Ultra cheap cheap shit<\/strong> (sorry!) from ultrafast fashion brands like @sheinofficial<\/a>, @sheingermany<\/a> and @boohoo<\/a> – this stuff is often produced so disrespectfully cheap that it can’t even be recycled (see also the Trashion documentary<\/a> by @changingmarkets<\/a> Foundation<\/span><\/span> ).<\/span><\/span> So: stay away from cheap clothing<\/strong> that was produced for the dump.<\/span><\/span> We have to make a mark here.<\/span><\/span> With a purchase boycott.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
