There are people who have an aura<\/strong>. Entering a room you can feel with closed eyes that they are there. Such a person is Elsien Gringhuis<\/strong>. The smart Dutch woman has managed to place minimalist clean chic<\/strong> in the eco sector<\/strong>. Reduced cuts, as they are otherwise known by Jil Sander & Co. as they have long been lacking in the Slow Fashion movement. From the world’s hustle and bustle, she does not let herself go out of her way<\/strong>, plays lightly<\/strong> with innovative details,<\/strong> uses cutting-edge materials<\/strong>, has created wearable art with her capsule collection “Blendscapes” (Photos by Tse Kao).<\/span><\/p>\n

Puristic Slow Fashion has a name – Elsien Gringhuis <\/div><\/div><\/span><\/h4>\n

Puristic Slow Fashion and Studio Elsien Gringuis can be used almost synonymous<\/strong>. But the clean design is not everything that distinguishes Elsiens visionary concept. Her wonderful favorite pieces, for which she mainly uses certified<\/strong> materials from Europe<\/strong>, produces them regardless of the seasonal dictation. It does not leave its hustle and bustle in the fashion industry and its short-lived trends. Follows her own rhythm<\/strong>. And lives her dream<\/strong> of “slower” fashion. Fashion for which designers can take time. Fashion, which is loved because of their quality<\/strong>. And of fashion that remains.<\/p>\n

Masterful cuts attract attention<\/p><\/div>\n

Why invest money and energy into something that has only six months? <\/div><\/div><\/span><\/h4>\n

Produced in the own studio in Arnhem in the Netherlands<\/strong>. And on order<\/strong>. Exactly as long as the corresponding textiles are exhausted. Sales are not necessary. Zero Waste<\/strong> even. The result of her work: puristic slow fashion as the industry has long been missing. Obviously, as Elsien Gringhuis presented her collection at the Amsterdamer Fashion Week<\/strong> (2009) right after graduation. Of course not just like that. She opened it. Since then, she has been awarded numerous international awards<\/strong> (among others the 2011 Green Fashion Competition – Fair Luxury Award – 2012.). Quiet but definitely<\/strong>. Considered and chosen. Powerful. Her conviction is felt with every word. She knows that her collections give a new direction<\/strong> to sustainable fashion. Elsien Gringhuis does not make any empty wrappers. She makes fashion with face<\/strong>. And I am really grateful for that, because the unaffected Dutchwoman shows the potential<\/strong> of the Slow Fashion in addition to sustainable and fair. Awesome design!<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> Would you kindly tell my readers how to pronounce your name<\/strong> correctly?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> It\u00b4s Elsien “Chinghaus”.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> Sometimes I read Elsien Gringhuis, sometimes Studio Elsien Gringhuis<\/strong>. What is right?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> Actually the label is Elsien Gringhuis. But with the “studio” before it sounds even better.<\/p>\n

Sustainable fashion is the new luxury <\/div><\/div><\/span><\/h4>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> Which keywords<\/strong> characterize your fashion best?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> Clean Chic, innovative in terms of detail, minimalistic cut, timeless design, high quality.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> When did sustainability<\/strong> begin to play a role in your life?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> In fact, very early. My mother had an Organic Foodstore already in the 80s. So I grew up with Organic Food<\/strong>. And I’ve learned from my parents how it’s done.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> That sounds like a sustainable lifestyle from the beginning. And when did you put it into your collections<\/strong>?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> That was still at the university in Arnhem<\/strong>. During my graduation year, I saw Dokus<\/strong> on working in the fashion industry, and decided that I would definitely work sustainable<\/strong> if I remained in fashion. Then I had to get to the subject, track materials, get to know production processes. Over the years, I have become more and more sustainable. This is a process<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Quality is a question of setting <\/div><\/div><\/span><\/h4>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> Instead of seasons<\/strong>, you work with books<\/strong> and chapters<\/strong>. Can you explain this to us?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> We are talking about an “ongoing” collection.<\/strong> We always add new looks and bundle them in books. And these books have chapters. The individual pieces do not fall out of the collection until the corresponding textiles have been used up.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> And how could the end of a book<\/strong> look like? Is there any end at all?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> That depends on what inspiration<\/strong> I have, what I add. Sometimes a book consists of a chapter. Sometimes of ten. This is a very organic process<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> As an insider – which country<\/strong> is forward with sustainable fashion: Germany or Holland?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> Germany has a lot of great sustainable designers. And the Germans pay great attention to this issue. I think you are doing very well.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> What material<\/strong> do you prefer?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> Currently I find Pinatex<\/a> very exciting. This is a relatively new material, which I just discovered for myself and from which I made bags<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Puristic Slow Fashion Made in Holland <\/div><\/div><\/span><\/h4>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> And what kind of material<\/strong> would you like to work with?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> I do not like a special material, but I like to develop new prints. Actually, prints from plant color<\/strong>s. This is very, very difficult. I’m just starting a project with a text image designer that dyes with rain drops. I would like to work directly with nature<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> Speaking of man: Is a studio Elsien Gringhuis men’s collection<\/strong> thinkable?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> Currently, there are already some unisex models. Sure – a men’s collection is absolutely conceivable.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> Sustainable fashion is developing slowly, but it is developing. What would speed up this process<\/strong> in your opinion?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> This question I ask myself again and again, but unfortunately still no answer<\/strong> found. I hope that sustainable fashion will develope as much as organic food<\/strong> in the 80s.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> What grounds<\/strong> you? What are you doing to get both legs back on the ground?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> I go cycling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

my-GREENstyle:<\/strong> May I ask what you wear today?
\nElsien Gringhuis:<\/strong> Oh, a blouse and a dress from previous chapters and my favorite shoe<\/strong>s from Bahatika<\/a>.<\/p>\n
