Since we were in Athens two years ago, my daughters are “capital hunter”. Of course, Berlin was scheduled, followed London and now we have used a long overdue visit to good friends in Vienna to visit the bustling metropolis of Austria. On the program: The major attractions such as St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Vienna symbolic monument), the Museums Quarter with its exciting exhibitions, of course, the Natural History Museum with its dinosaurs and sharks and the Vienna Prater. And that’s why we checked in at the Mercure Vienna First.
Midst of it – Mercure Vienna First
I like living in the middle, to sniff the real life and to cover no long distances need. The ideal hotel for our needs was quickly found: The Mercure Vienna First on Desider Friedmann place is a stone’s throw of many exciting attractions. If you step in front of the hotel, it is the center of life: cozy bars, wonderful restaurants, small boutiques, ice cream shops – everything a person would need. I am also impressed by there sustainability concept Planet21 – to that later. And: A child under 16 years bleary free when sharing with parents. I can recommend the Mercure Vienna First just anyone who wants to experience relaxed days in Austria´s charming metropolis.
Design Hot Spot: Mercure First Vienna
Once you leave the cobbled square with its opulent buildings, the hotel welcomes guests with an exciting mix of Viennese tradition and modern design elements. So the entire ceiling of the lobby is decorated with a XL-portrait of the legendary Austrian empress Sissi (including anchor tattoo on her shoulder). Loving the lighting was staged for this work and makes our favorite Empress shine with royal splendor. Comfortable lounge corners with refined “chairs” invite you to linger. Under the watchful eye of the Empress you can completely relax by scrolling in newspapers and magazines, enjoy a refreshing drink. Enjoy the time.
Waltz school – musical design highlight
The traditional charm does not end on the ground floor – it accompanied me on every meter of the hotel. So on each floor, where the interior designers have devised something really Cute: What would be Vienna without his waltz?

From the elevator to the room the corridor is designed with a “waltz rug” on each floor. Following the step sequences, beginners and advanced can dance the Viennese Waltz to reach their rooms.
Clean Chic x traditional charm
My room on the top floor is lovely light, the color palette reduced. White, gray (in different shades) and red determine the room. Pleasant clean furniture design meets a typo wallpaper that also brings Viennese charm refined into the bedroom. Outside the windows – the roofs of the fascinating city.
Long live the sustainability – Planet21
At the reception (Occupied 24h) I will be informed about the environmental activities of the Accor group, which also includes the Mercure Vienna First. Within the framework of the sustainable Planet21 program, which is developed for all hotels associated and implemented depending on the hotel and different settings (the Mercure Vienna First has silver status but continues on working for the implementation of sustainable policies), you can apply for a non purification of the room, or opt out of the daily towel exchange.
Honestly – daily towel laundry you do not need at home also
Of course, I refrain that my towels changed daily and am happy that with my decision for the Plant for the Planet program I make a tree donation possible. And the towels are cleaned yet – the Mercure Vienna First works together with a water-saving laundry. The bath products such as soap, body lotion, shower gel and shampoo are sustainable and fair – exclusively produced for the hotel Mercure.
Healthy Food – Vienna First Bistro
Granola, delicious wholemeal bread, fresh fruits, numerous specialty coffees (of course fair trade) and other healthy delicacies makes the breakfast in the bistro for the first culinary highlight of the day for which you like to leave the cozy bed.

Here, incidentally, also lunch and dinner is possible – delightful regional and seasonal ingredients and dishes provide a varied selection. Must-know for gin fans and night owls: In Vienna First there is an XL-Gin-selection (16 different varieties!) And 12 different tonics. And where to enjoy the last drink of the day better than in the stylish bar in the main hotel?
Even more sustainable Facts
All rooms are equipped with energy-saving central switches and energy-saving lamps. The materials used in the rooms are eco-friendly. And of course, organic waste is separated from the restaurant, office waste and oddments recycled. In addition, the Mercure Vienna First committed the protection of minors from abuse.
Conclusion: The Mercure Vienna First is my first choice – perfect location, great rooms, sustained commitment. I’ll be back!
