The Story of Armedangels
Two Cologne boys who have met at a congress on social entrepreneurship, a shared flat and a revolutionary idea. And a daring one, for Anton Jurina and Martin Höfeler had no less plan than to revolutionize the fashion world and become the fairest fashion label in the world. Because the two were convinced that appealing fashion is also feasible without wage slavery and without the need for chemistry. Slowfashion instead of Fastfashion was the motto of their start-up, which started with the name Charitee, a logo with an armed angel and a six-part T-shirt collection in the year 2007.
Their passion for good design and the horror of the flaws in the textile industry was the key moment for the company founders
The logo, which stands for a kind of “Robin Hood” of the fashion industry, has remained. The name had to be changed for legal reasons. Armedangels was born and has not changed in the past ten years, with the credo of not harming any of his products of the environment or a human being. However, what has changed is the supply chain. If the Armedangels label is sometimes reduced to T-shirts because of its history, you are mistaken, because they have much more to offer today. Meanwhile sweat bomber jackets, delicate blouses, an XL selection of fantastic jeans and jeans shirts and relaxed clothes for every occasion can be found in the collections.
Eco is not an option but a must
The success of the two visionaries has proven them right, because Armedangels is on the right course with 60 employees, 50% growth rates a year and 800 point of sales in 16 countries. Currently, most of the sales are still in Germany, but the Cologne label is also growing abroad in popularity with its timeless Fairfashion-Looks. There is also a lack of prominent supporters: Eva Padberg, Cosma Shiva Hagen and Thomas D. are happy to name the fairfashion label.
Materials, certifications, awards
For Armedangels, eco is not a trend, but an attitude and a responsibility towards the environment. This is why sustainable materials such as organic cotton, mules-free organic wool, bio-linen, recycled polyester, bamboo and Tencel or Modal (both from Lenzing from Austria) are used. And instead of plastic, the Cologne label uses natural materials such as wood or horn for its buttons.

In addition to the highest respect for the environment, Armedangels is also committed to the fair working conditions of all people involved in the process. The close cooperation with local producers and independent organizations such as GOTS, Fairtrade and the Fair Wear Foundation (since 2015) guarantee that the self-imposed, strict guidelines are adhered to. In 2012, Armedangels received the Fair Wear Award in the “Trade” category from Fairtrade International.
Fairness is never out of Fashion
Armedangels also have a fair prices. Instead of investing in large marketing budgets, the Cologne label reduces its margin. This guarantees the highest standards of quality and sustainable operation at a fair price. And even after ten years, Armedangels is still not on target. A lot is still on the agenda here. And the team is still working on its goals. After all, they want to become the most fair label of the world.
Favorite piece
Hard to say what a favorite part is. For this, Armedangels has many in the program. My personal fashion favorite? The gray sweater jacket “Manou” made of organic cotton with waffle-pique look, which is, of course, an indispensable basic of my fairfashion wardrobe.
