Sustainable News #1:  @the_press_tour by Emma Watson

For me, Emma Watson is one of the personalities who grow beyond themselves. Since 2014, the UN Special Ambassador has been campaigning for gender equality, women’s rights and human rights. Within the framework of her Feminist Book Club “Our Shared Shelf”, Emma Watson is exchanging book recommendations with the likes of others. Her first tip: Gloria Steinem’s “My Life on the Road”. And now she has provided another wave of enthusiasm – not just the in sustainability interested people. I do not know why poor Emma Watson still has to be the Harry Potter Hermione in the press. Has the young woman played other great roles (The Bling Ring, Maybe tomorrow, Colonia Dignidad) with bravura.

Much more than Harry’s Hermione – Emma Watson is an activist

Now, the 26-year-old Briton is using the press tour for the blockbuster “The Beauty and the Beast” (start: 16.3.2017) to make remarkable efforts to ensure sustainable fashion. From all the events during her promo tour, the smart Briton will post a photo on her specially launched Instagram account @the_press_tour, on which she a) wears a sustainable garment and b) explains why she chose the label. For example a short coat from Stella McCartney, a Filippa K sweater or a Louis Vuitton dress made of recycled polyester. Congrats Emma Watson, for this great project!

Tonight was a special screening of @beautyandthebeast in London. The film was shown at the Odeon Leicester Square cinema to 1,600 people after a reception at the stunning Spencer House 🌹 Bespoke @emiliawickstead structural, off-the-shoulder gown with inverted pleat train. The gown is made from end-of-line fabric sourced from a family-run, London business specialising in couture fabrics, and produced in Italy. These unwanted fabric pieces have been given a new lease of life; often irregular quantities of surplus or end-of-line fabrics cannot be sold and are destroyed. This piece was created in Emilia Wickstead's London atelier, by an all-female team. Earrings are from @catbirdnyc, whose pieces are handmade in Brooklyn. Dress validated by @ecoage #ecoloves Skin prepped with @demamielskin Dewy Facial Mist, @tataharper Repairative Moisturiser and @decleoruk Aromessence Neroli Hydrating Oil Serum. De Mamiel mist is made from ingredients sourced and blended in the UK, in small batches to maintain the vitality of each natural ingredient. Tata Harper are verified by PETA that neither the brand nor its ingredient suppliers conduct, commission, or pay for any tests on animals for ingredients, formulations, or finished products. Decléor serum is a blend of naturally derived ingredients such as neroli and sandalwood and free from mineral oils and parabens. Foundation is @inikaorganic's BB Cream, which is certified organic, vegan and not tested on animals. Concealer is the @rmsbeauty "Un" Cover-Up made from organic coconut, jojoba and cacao oil and mineral colours. Cheeks are @iliabeauty A Fine Romance Multi-Stick which is gluten-free and then finished with Inika's Mineral Mattifying Powder, blended from silica, corn, tapioca and rice powders instead of talc, which face powders have traditionally been based on. Sustainable News #2: Green Carpet Fashion Awards by Livia Firth

Livia Firth, who founded the Consulting Agency Eco Age after visit in Bangladesh in 2008, was publicly challenged by Lucy Siegle on the occasion of the nomination of her husband for “A Single Man”. As an “eco-girl” she should master the dressing for the Red Carpet with a clear conscience. The in Rome born, of course, has solved the problem with the hereditary Grandezza. And so the Green Carpet Challenge was born. At first quite small, but over time she has managed to inspire great designers like Tom Ford, Valentino and Alberta Ferretti for her sustainable project and to work with organic cotton, peace silk & Co.

Round-the-clock in action for sustainability – Livia Firth

At the Berlin ZEITmagazin x VOGUE conference in January, the eco-icon emphasized that she would not rest on the successes of Eco Age. Among other things, mentioning such great projects as the Green Carpet Capsule Collection. During the London Fashion Week in the autumn of 2013 the sustainable favorite pieces were sold on Net-a-porter.com. The next milestones are more important to her, she emphasizes. And there is already one: During the Fashion Week in Milan, the first Green Carpet Fashion Awards will take place on September 24, 2017 in the Scala. Organized by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and Livia Firth’s company Eco-Age. Italian design houses like Armani, Gucci and Prada will design a look according to the strict Eco Age criteria. As part of a contest (starting in March), new talents are also being sought.

Sustainable News #3:  From Germany to the World: Berlin Showroom

The Berlin-based designer William Fan, one of the winners of the Fellowship program of the Fashion Council Germany, has just been given the opportunity to present his collection at the Summerset House to an international audience during London Fashion Week as part of the International Fashion Showcase 2017. And it is already going for other fantastic Berlin designers to Paris.

From Berlin to the international fashion world – Berlin Showroom

As part of the Berlin Showroom project, newcomers and established designers will present their autumn / winter collections 2017/18 from 3 to 5 March. Place and time are not chosen by chance. Because when the Germans presents at 7 Place de Vendome in cooperation with the trade show WOMAN is the maximum fashion primetime, thanks to Fashion Week Paris. Schmidttakahashi, the Berlin label by Eugenie Schmidt and Mariko Takahashi, is also involved in the process of disassembling used textiles and composing them into new, unique pieces. Absolutely worth seeing: the collection by Esther Perbandt, which has been working sustainable since 2011 and delivers great Berlin-inspired designs.
