Fruit Leather # 1: Pineapple
The fact that pineapples are not only extremely delicious and super healthy, but that pineapple leather is a fantastic vegane alternative, is still quite new. But at least some of us have heard of the innovative material (made by Pinatex). And the one or the other may already have one or another favorite piece from the extremely sustainable material. Just now I have seen again the marvelous bag collection from marvelously crisp pineapple leather of Maravillas Bags at the Greenshowroom. And also the Dutch high-end label Elsien Gringhuis has pineapple leather in the program – in the form of a fantastic shopper.

Fruit Leather # 2: Strawberry, Apple & Co
Originally, a study project was conducted at the Willem de Koonijng Academie in Rotterdam in search of a sensible use for the remaining fruit and vegetables of the Rotterdam weekly market. The students have experimented and developed an extremely innovative concept that not only reduces the garbage from the weekly market, but has also produced “Fruit Leather Rotterdam”, a vegan alternative for leather.
We live in a world where resources become more scarce by the day. Time to make a change.
A really exciting topic, which is still in the test. It has been shown, for example, that strawberry leather is very sensitive, but gaining resistance as soon as apple and pumpkin are added. A great theme that has already aroused the interest of automobile manufacturers such as BMW. At the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven (21 – 29 October 2017) the Fruitleather Rotterdam group will be showing the potential of fruit leather with designer Jordi Verbaan. On display: the iconic Wassiliy Chair by Marcel Breuer. You can read more about this topic here

Fruit Leather #3: Rhubarb
Unlike rhubarb and strawberries, rhubarb leather is not a material made from rhubarb. Rhubarb leather is a eco leather of cattle grown in Germany, which is permanently tanned with the extract of the rhubarb root. Thanks to the purely vegetable tanning process, the use of toxic chromium salts can be dispensed with. This innovative method has been discovered and developed by Dr. Anne-Christin Bansleben, who uses this material not only for the dreamlike collections of her own label Deepmello, but also for other manufacturers as a sustainable alternative.
